  • 1.0 out of 5 stars from Tucson Jan -- I could only read about a fourth of it and had to put it down : I've never been known to be a prude but this book is so obscene I just couldn't read any more of it. I didn't mind the sexual things in it but couldn't handle the gore. I hate not finishing a book but this one had to go. The person who wrote it must really hate men. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from SeriousReader -- Beautifully written novel : I’m only on page 11, but felt the need to start my review now. The writing is marvelous. I’m slowing down to savor it. Just wonderful. More impressions to come. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2020 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Luis O. Bello -- Marvelous! : This is a very entertaining read. It is an original and unique story. Out of the ordinary and full of surprises. Some may find some parts shocking or disturbing but it is also beautifully written. This author's writing is so poetic and highly descriptive yet utterly captivating. I could have read it in one sitting but drew it out as I did not want it to end. I look forward to more books by this author. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Julia Sullivan -- Wonderful and Horrifying : A woman who kills and eats her lovers, but who continues to see the world around her with a sharp, satiric eye, is the marvelously complex protagonist of this beautifully crafted novel. Combines elegance and the rawest matter of humanity. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2020 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Holy Heck! I loved this book so much. : I knew early on that this was going to be at least a 4-star read for me, but much depended on the ending. The last chapter was a doozy, and a couple paragraphs in particular left me breathless. ( Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Michael Malinowski -- Enveloping--a captivating and guilty PLEASURE : Such sophisticated writing--as it should be to embody the persona of the narrator. So strange--such a dark book, but wholly humanized and inviting. Chelsea Summers penetrates the dark side of the human condition, but she humanizes it. She makes Silence of the Lambs-level material welcoming, which is personally scary (lots of reflection on my part) but wholly entertaining. The whimsical sophistication captured in the persona of the narrator and writing is beyond impressive--what should be off-putting is charming and inviting. Wow. Chelsea Summers mentions that it took her eight years of intense work to write this book. She must have come into the project with an expansive base of intellectual knowledge, because even the intellectual, educated and traveled 1% of writers could have consumed 18 and not be able to achieve such a "natural" delivery--so necessary to capture the narrator's being. Wow. I am worried that I enjoyed this so much. ( Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Smart Shopper -- So close to 4 stars : I don’t think even a foodie would want to read such detail descriptions of food and wine included within these pages. I had to begin to skip these descriptions. In doing so multiple times i was able to keep reading the otherwise great book with a more original premise that I haven’t seen (or it’s been so longI cant remember), and kept me very interested. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Craig McMurtry -- A page turner and an art work. I wish I could hang it on my wall. : Two passages about love bookend this novel about a series of precisely-told killings. They are beautiful and the novel is magnificent. The author twice accomplishes a dangerous feat that is challenging once: to have a character be accomplished in their field and to demonstrate that. One is a top food critic; the other a very successful painter. The writer shows THEIR work, which requires that she has become expert in both worlds. It’s done with aplomb. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from I Searle -- Incredible : I felt compelled to write this review. I truly enjoyed this book, the writing and word choice and the story was compelling and addictive. I hope there is more to come from this author in the future. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 18, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jonathan -- good : good ( Reviewed in Canada on July 11, 2021 )
